Tom Hooper

Tom is the Chief Executive Officer of the Canterbury Development Corporation (CDC), the Economic Development Agency for the Christchurch City Council. CDC is an advisor to CCC, CERA and the CCDU in the earthquake recovery process to ensure that long term thinking is incorporated in to the recovery effort, optimising the benefit from the rebuild and maximising the long term economic benefits.

CDC is Tom’s first ‘not for profit’ role, he has an extensive private sector background of 15 years in corporate leadership across industries in the UK, Europe & NZ. Tom has led companies who have won recognition for growth (UK Sunday Times Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies 3 years running) and company culture (UK Top 100 SME Companies to work for). He’s advised global businesses on organisation structure and worked within the private equity world for a number of years. He’s a sustainable capitalist (ask him) and believes absolutely in the concept of ‘shadow of the leader’.

He is married to Kirstie, they have two children (Ben 9 and Lauren 6) and live in Lincoln. When he can find the time he plays bad golf, reasonable tennis and (injuries to his 42yr old system permitting) likes to remember his youth by playing the occasional game of basketball.
